Mom blogs are taking over the blogging world with full force and the biggest reason for this is for moms to work from home while also raising their children. I mean who wouldn’t jump at the chance to work from home on your own schedule (or your child’s schedule that is) while also actively chasing around toddlers?

This is why I started my blog just over one year ago.

I was stuck in a hard spot where I had to make a decision of whether I should go back to work full time with two small children still at home and barely spend any time with them or give this whole blogging thing a try.

And honestly it was not until I saw an inspiring pin on Pinterest by Suzi Whitford – Start A Mom Blog, that I finally decided to take a chance.

One of the biggest lessons that I learned throughout my journey as a new blogger was that it’s okay to draw inspiration from other mom bloggers when you are feeling stuck. I do this very often when I am having a hard time getting ideas for blog posts or even looking for different ways to promote my blog.

The best thing about being a mommy blogger is having the ability to help other mom bloggers and to spread encouragement. And that’s why I wanted to share with you the top 9 mom bloggers that I follow and why you should be following them too.

These wonderful moms have inspired me in so many ways and are my go-to resources for all things blogging.

Are you thinking about starting your very own mom blog? If so, here is my simple step by step guide to starting a blog on a tight budget.

1. Elna Cain –Twins Mommy

Elna is a freelance writer and blogger who writes blog posts specifically for moms looking to build a business from home while also raising children. I love reading all of the different ways she shows to promote your blog while also balancing motherhood.

She also has tons of free resources such as 18 Places for FREE Girly and Styled Stock Photos

Elna has also created one of the best ever blogging courses that I have ever taken. Ready, Set, Blog for Traffic literally changed my blog forever and I am finally making an income thanks to this course.
  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I started Twins Mommy as a passion project. I wanted to blog as a work at home mom and the challenges that came with taking care of a little one and working from home.

This soon pivoted to helping mom bloggers make an income from blogging. I wanted to connect with other mom bloggers in this niche and was getting comments and emails from new mom bloggers wanting help. That’s when I focused my Twins Mommy blog to help other mom bloggers become successful with their blogs.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?

I’ve been blogging for three years now. My first blog is Elna Cain, is where I share freelance writing tips for people.

My whole blogging journey was born from wanting to stay home with my twins after my maternity ended. I had to find a way to stay home and contribute to the finances and I learned that freelance writing was a very viable option to make an income.

Check out Elna’s Freelancing course Write Your Way to Your First $1k.

  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

The best advice I can offer is to connect with other bloggers! Blogging is a community and we are all here to help one another!

When I started Twins Mommy I didn’t know any other mom bloggers and I searched on Facebook and Pinterest to find them. And when I did, I commented on their posts, followed them and connected with them. It’s opened up collaborations on webinars, products and more!

And having a blogger friend can get you through the tough times that come with blogging!

2. Victoria Pruett – A Modern Homestead

I first met Victoria after reading her story in an email about how she had started many different blogs that all seemed to fail but when she started A Modern Homestead she finally found her way to success. Not only did she succeed but she also was able to support her family and help her husband leave a job that he hated that with her frugal living homesteading blog.

Victoria has also since written several ebooks about saving money on groceries and also making money from a blog no matter how small your audience is.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I wanted a place to write about my crafting interests.
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

I’ve been blogging for 9 years total, but only 2 at my current blog.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

Find a successful blogger and study their practices. Test what works for you and never stop learning!

3. Carly Campbell –Mommy on Purpose

Carly is the amazing mom behind the blog Mommy on Purpose where she writes about being a mommy to her precious little one. She also covers other life topics including the home, finances, and of course, increasing your blog traffic with her Master Pinterest Strategy.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I wanted to stay at home and raise my baby and work for myself. So I totally started it to make money. I think that’s a GREAT reason to start a blog.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

It’ll be two years since I first started my blog in February of 2018.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

I think it’s important to question some of the more mainstream wisdom – I think you DO need to blog for page views for the first year. I also think it’s important that you know this: if you want to make money, you need to solve problems. Period. Make your blog about OTHER PEOPLES PROBLEMS. No one wants to read about you – or me. They want to read about them.

4. Anna Merhalski –Salt in My Coffee

Anna is a newer blogger much like myself who started blogging to make an income to help support her family of four. She was told by many other bloggers that she would not see any real income from her grain-free/DIY/homesteading blog until she reached 10,000 monthly page views.

But like many of us, Anna simply could not wait for her page views to climb over time. That’s why she made it her personal mission to reach over 10k pageviews in her first 30 days of blogging. And she did.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

Honestly, I’d played around with the idea of a blog for years. I LOVE writing. But I didn’t know what I had to offer that people would actually want to read! I decided to really GO for it when I realized I needed to find some way to make an income from home if I wanted to stay home with my kids. So really, it was the financial need that gave me the nudge I needed to dive in.
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

I’ve really been blogging in earnest for almost 14 months. Prior to that, I’d written a few posts, and my mom and friends read them.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

Advice? Be bold. Be brave. And just DO it. Don’t wait until you think you’ve learned all you need to or have the perfect framework, or even until you feel totally confident about your topics! Just go for it. You will learn what you’re meant to write about as you go. You’ll find your voice as you go. You CAN do this, and there ARE people out there who want to read what you have in your heart to write!

5. Latasha A. Peterson –Arts and Budgets

Just like many other moms who start a blog, Latasha started her blog as a way to show other moms different ways to make money from home whether it be through side hustles or through blogging.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I have been performing in music and theater almost my whole adult life, and before I started my blog + biz I would often create music with a group of Creatives who were also looking to do what they love on a daily basis and make income from it.

It was with them that I felt empowered and inspired to help other creatives who were seeking to follow their passions just like me. So I started a blog where other creatives could find resources to grow, change the world and do what they love on a daily basis!

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING?

I have been blogging for a year and a half now. 🙂
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

Identify your audience! Identifying your audience, in the beginning, is super important for your blog + biz. Before you think about monetizing your blog, make sure that you know who your target audience is because it will make it easier to create products for them.

If you aren’t sure who your audience is, think about the type of people you want to attract to your blog. Are you a mom blogger and want to attract moms that are looking to make extra money? Are you a personal finance blogger and want to connect with others that want to learn how to save money and get out of debt?

After you identify your target audience create products such as Ebooks and Ecourses geared towards helping them find solutions to their problems.

I recently saw a post from Nicole Walter that said,

” If you get 1,000 people to spend $100 a YEAR in your business- that’s $100,000. Not chump change.

You don’t need everyone. Serve the heck out of the people that show up, and be authentic to who you are.”

6. Megan Johnson –Love Family Health

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

When I first started blogging in August of 2016, my blog was more of a Lifestyle Blog focused on Motherhood! However, I wasn’t very good at it, and since I was currently working as a contractor on the side doing marketing for a small business I decided to change my focus and blog about Marketing Strategies!
I wanted to be able to take my Marketing Degree and put it to good use, so I did just that!
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

Take it day by day when you are first starting out. Try not to overload yourself with information, that way you don’t get overwhelmed and give up! I almost stopped blogging because I was so overloaded with information and it started to become too much for me.
But when I slowed down and took things step-by-step and day-by-day, it was much less overwhelming!

7. Suzi Whitford –Start a Mom Blog

Let me just quickly say that Suzi was the person that first inspired me to start this blog. It was a pin on Pinterest that said something like – “Imagine where you will be a year from now if you start your blog today. Don’t wait!”

Another thing I love about Suzi is the fact that she is a real mom who shows you each and every step to starting your own mom blog and growing it into a huge success.

Suzi also has an entire arsenal of courses that are perfect for new mom bloggers including:

8. Caroline Simmons –The Basics of Blogging

I first came to meet Caroline through her blog – The Basics of Blogging and was instantly inspired and began following her tips and soaking up all of the knowledge that I could find on her blog.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I started my blog because I honestly missed working! While I love being a mom and doing all the daily duties that come with being a stay at home mom, I wanted to work towards something that challenged me on a different level. A blog had the added bonus that I could connect with other moms through my site.
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

I have been blogging for a little over a year. Swaddles n’ Bottles launched in October 2016.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

My biggest piece of advice to new bloggers would be to treat your blog like a business. As the CEO of your business, make sure you are spending your time doing tasks that will help you reach and exceed your business goals.
Thanks so much for including me in the blog post. Information like this is always so beneficial to new bloggers and it’s great you are putting this together to help them out.

9. Viktoria Andersson – Awesome Alice

Next is Viktoria of Awesome Alice. We first met through other mom blogger groups on Facebook and had started our blogs around the same time.

But probably the biggest reason I am such a fan is the fact that Awesome Alice is very much like my own blog. We write about very similar topics and I am truly inspired by her blog. I have also learned so many blogging tips and tricks from her blog in just the last few weeks alone.

If you have not yet visited Viktoria’s beautiful parenting blog you need to hop on over now and take a peek.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I first started blogging after the birth of my second child. Spending the whole day with my kids was a dream come true for me. But at night time, after they’d gone to bed, I found myself in front of the TV bored out of my mind. I needed to use my brain for something more productive than reading The cat in the hat or scrolling through my Instagram feed.
  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

I started my blog in December 2016 but I struggled a lot with the direction of my blog in the beginning. I changed topics more often than other people change their… well, you know what I mean. The blog as it is now was born in March 2017.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

If your goal is to grow an audience and make money from your blog, then you need to know who you’re writing for. If you’re writing for everyone, you’ll end up writing to no one. Create a reader avatar to help you write great blog content, social media posts and to market your blog.

10. Heather McMaster – VeryAnxiousMommy.com

I originally had no intention of adding myself to this list because when it was first written, I was not making an income or really blogging successfully at all. However, since then, I have finally built my blog into an inspirational place where mothers can come for valuable information as well as support.

  • WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR OWN BLOG?

I first started this blog to help earn a side income to support my family. However, I soon learned that making an income from my blog was not as easy as I thought. It took me years to finally figure out how to earn an income from my blog.

  • HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN BLOGGING

I started my blog back in November of 2016, so almost 3 years.
  • WHAT IS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WOULD OFFER NEW BLOGGERS?

Focus on your audience and what is getting you the most traffic to your blog. This is how you will not only grow your blog into a profitable business but also build trust with your readers.
